KCR Asked Naidu To Wind Up T-TDP?

Did Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao ask Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to wind up the Telangana unit of the TDP?

The answer is yes, according Naidu. In an interview to a financial daily, the TDP president said he had no intention of joining hands with the Congress party initially.

“I proposed that the TDP and the TRS should work together in the best interests of the Telugu people in the coming elections.

“My idea was that if both the TRS and TDP join hands, the Telugu speaking states would have a greater say in Parliament with the combined strength,” he said.

“But KCR has turned down my proposal. Instead, he wanted me to wind up the TDP in Telangana, as a pre-condition. I told him it is not possible.

“And to sustain the TDP, we had to join the grand alliance with the Congress and other parties in Telangana. It was a political compulsion,” he said.

Referring to the allegations of KCR that the TDP was an Andhra party and was going against the interests of Telangana, Naidu said the TDP was formed for protecting the interests of Telugu speaking population.

It had worked for the development of the Telangana region in general and substantially augmented the infrastructure in and around Hyderabad in particular, apart from building many large irrigation projects, he pointed out.

“The TDP will continue to work for the development and welfare of the Telugu speaking states in mutual cooperation.

“If there are any disputes, there are well established tribunals, legal frameworks and entitlements for states on river water sharing, which will have to be honoured.

“It would be better in the interests of both the states that they have continuous cooperation. Disputes will only harm both,” he said.
