For the last few days, the excise department in Hyderabad has been conducting a special drive for minor boys and girls and their parents against drunken driving in the wake of the recent death of eight-year old girl Ramya in an accident caused by a drunk boy. The authorities are also raiding bars and pubs which are selling liquor to minors below 18 years.
During the counselling, one of the boys asked the department officials; “What is wrong in drunk boys driving vehicles, when a drunk man can run the government?” Obviously, he was referring to Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who is known for heavy boozing.
This was what Telugu Desam Party floor leader in the Assembly A Revanth Reddy pointed out. “Why blame others, when KCR has become a role model for people for drinking?” he asked.
He said KCR had been blind to running of pubs and bars and selling of liquor to boys and girls, while he had ordered drive against gambling clubs.
“He and his family are destroying the state by indiscriminately allowing liquor,” he charged.
Referring to the No. 1 position given to KCR by the Narendra Modi government, Revanth Reddy wondered when a person who drinks and sleeps in his farmhouse can get the No. 1 position, why the hell is the need for Narendra Modi government in the centre. “This is utterly ridiculous,” he criticised.
