Just A Publicity Stunt!

Just A Publicity Stunt!

The Supreme Court dismissed a plea by DK Aruna seeking direction to Chief Ministers of seven states to consider including women in their council of ministers in conformity with the fundamental right to equality and against discrimination.

The Supreme Court expressed its inability to entertain the pleas saying that it could not coerce anyone on this issue.

The petition filed by Aruna should not make one come to the conclusion that she is a champion of women’s rights or anything of that sort. This is nothing but a publicity stunt.

Her daughter, husband and son-in-law are facing court proceedings relate to illegal quarrying in Mahabubnagar. How can a woman whose own family is involved in criminal activities be taken at face value regarding any ideology?

Besides, reservations have far outlived their purpose and are now a bane to this nation. Merit and not gender should be the sole criteria.

Besides, if one were to look at the national scene, women have proved as equally capable if not more capable than men of rampant corruption. Jayalalitha, Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje, Pooja Munde etc. A pretty impressive list.
