Jagan's daughter interested in politics?

It appears the family of former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy is all set to witness its third generation entering politics.

Even as Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila is preparing the ground for her son Y S Raja Reddy’s entry into politics sooner or later, speculation is now rife that her brother YSR Congress party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s daughter is also contemplating stepping into active politics.

Currently, Jagan and his wife Bharathi are on a visit to London, where both their daughters have been pursuing higher studies and staying away from public life.

The elder daughter, Harsha Reddy, has completed an MBA in France and is now based in London, while the younger daughter, Varsha Reddy, is a graduate of Notre Dame University and employed at a reputed Singapore-based company.

According to party sources, there have been intense speculations in the party over the possibility of Jagan’s daughter entering into politics.

“There is a necessity of a new generation leadership face to secure the party’s future, especially after the YSRCP’s unexpected defeat in the 2024 assembly elections,” sources said.

Sources suggest Jagan may consider introducing one of his daughters into politics as part of a broader revival strategy ahead of the 2029 general elections.

At present, Jagan’s wife Bharathi Reddy remains largely apolitical, confining her appearances to election campaigns. She is focussing on family businesses and domestic matters.

There is a talk that during the current London visit, Jagan might discuss his plans regarding the political debut of Jagan’s daughter, possibly from Kadapa in the next Lok Sabha elections.

If this materializes, it would mark a significant moment — continuing the YSR family’s political legacy into its third generation.

Party leaders, however, remain tight-lipped on whether the daughters are interested or willing to take up active roles.
