Its EFLU's turn next?

It is not just Osmania University lands that KCR is eyeing, going by media reports, the 32 acre English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) located in Hyderabad might be shifted to Bhoodanpochampally in Nalgonda district.

“This move just goes on to show the government's lack of concern for students coming to study here. The university has many international students and the urban environs of Hyderabad make it easy for them to settle in. Pushing them away to Nalgonda will not be correct,“ a professor of the university  said.

Raising doubts over the government's intentions, the professor added: “This is a prime land parcel and the government could well be trying to use it for more profitable real estate ventures.”

Sources in the government meanwhile have a different take on the issue. “The campus in the city is very small to accommodate so many students. Even the infrastructure is not up to the mark. Thus, it would be better if it is shifted to Nalgonda where it can operate out of a sprawling premises of over 93 acres,” said one TRS MP.

Currently, Eflu has around 2,500 students and its annual intake from across the country is about 728.

Predictably, professors and students of the central university are disturbed by the latest development.
