The internal squabbles in the opposition TDP in Vijayawada raise a question whether the party leadership is showing door to local MP Kesineni Srinivas, better known as Kesineni Nani.
Kesineni had been a solo fighter all through his political career. It continues even in TDP. The differences were more visible now in the run up for the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation elections.
He was set aside by the party leadership due to differences with then Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao.
Leaders like MLC Budda Venkanna differed with Kesineni just before the 2019 general elections.
Now, almost all leaders have deserted Kesineni, particularly after the municipal elections were resumed.
The latest to walk out of Kesineni camp is senior leader K Nagul Meera, who had teamed up with Buddha Venkanna and others.
Interestingly, Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Ramamohan is also now seems to be opposing Kesineni.
The reason behind this isolation is the candidature of Kesineni’s daughter Kesineni Swetha for the office of Vijayawada Mayor.
Though the party had cleared her candidature in March 2020, the leadership seems to have changed its mind now.
The party is said to be in favour of Gadde’s wife and former Krishna ZP chairperson Anuradha.
However, with the State Election Commissioner resuming the civic polls and not cancelling the earlier process, the TDP leadership is now in favour of former mayor Koneru Sridhar’s wife.
The top leadership wants, as is said, to cut Kesineni to size as he had rebelled against the party when Galla Jayadev was named the Parliamentary Party leader.
