There seems to be more to Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao hurriedly launching the Dalit Bandhu scheme in Vasalamarri village of Yadadri Bhongir district on Wednesday than what meets the eye.
According to highly placed sources, the Telangana chief minister has received indications from sources in New Delhi that the Election Commission might announce the schedule for the by-election to Huzurabad assembly constituency in two or three days.
If the EC announces the schedule, KCR will not be in a position to launch the scheme in Huzurabad and that will definitely affect the prospects of the TRS in the by-elections.
In order to implement the scheme in Huzurabad, KCR should ensure that it should be already launched.
That is why the chief minister reacted quickly and announced the launch of Dalit Bandhu scheme in Vasalamarri, so that it would become an ongoing scheme when it is enforced in Huzurabad.
Even if the opposition raises any objection with the Election Commission in implementing the scheme in Huzurabad, the TRS government can claim that it is an ongoing scheme.
So, it can go ahead with distribution of Rs 10 lakh to each of the Dalit families in Huzurabad to garner their votes.
Perhaps realising that the EC might announce the schedule any time, former health minister and BJP candidate in Huzurabad Eatala Rajender also hurriedly got discharged from hospital in Hyderabad on Thursday and rushed to Huzurabad.
He is not yet fit physically, as he underwent knee surgery only a couple of days ago. But Rajender drove to Huzurabad to gear up for the by-poll if notification is issued shortly.
He is expected to continue his tour on wheel-chair to seek sympathy votes from the people!
