Hasty Bifurcation Of HC To Benefit Jagan?

Hasty Bifurcation Of HC To Benefit Jagan?

Why did President of India Ramnath Kovind suddenly issue a notification bifurcating the combined high court of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with effect from January 1?

Well, according to Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the decision to separate high courts for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was taken at such a short notice only to benefit YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

The argument of Naidu appears to be strange and silly, but he tries to give his own reasoning for the same.

He said with the bifurcation of the high court, the criminal courts at Nampally would also get divided between the two Telugu states.

Even the special CBI court dealing with the cases of Jagan would also cease to exist and it also has to be divided into two for the two states.

“Once a new CBI court is created in AP, the judicial process will start all over again in Jagan’s case. It would definitely lead to dilution of charges against him. And there is a possibility that he might escape punishment in his cases before the elections,” Naidu argued and lashed out at the Centre for taking decision without consulting the state.

Strangely, it was only on Thursday that Naidu had welcomed the formation of separate high court for Andhra Pradesh.

“It has to happen some day or the other. We shall make arrangements for temporary running of the high court in the CM’s camp office in Vijayawada till the construction of interim high court complex is completed,” he said.

The Centre has been under tremendous pressure to divide the high court from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government and also due to instructions from the Supreme Court to expedite the process.

Though AP was expecting that it would take another two months, the Centre came out with a sudden notification.
