Government's Decision Is Unconstitutional

The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) made Aadhar number compulsory for the ongoing family survey in the villages of the capital region.

The Aadhar number is now compulsory to get benefits of government schemes for people living in the capital region. This is not a constitutionally valid decision.

The Supreme Court has declared that Aadhar need not be mandatory to avail of any benefits from state and central schemes.

Against the backdrop of this judgment, the TDP government keeps ignoring the ruling of the judiciary by making it a must for all of its schemes in Andhra Pradesh. This will clearly amount to a contempt of court.

Aadhar has its pros and cons and one major benefit is that it eliminates middle men thereby facilitating smoother transfer of subsidy to the citizen.

But the government has to go according to the law and the law says that Aadhar is not mandatory.
