Notorious for their speeches of hatred in recent times against Hinduism, the brothers continue to fan the flames of communal tension with their no holds barred attacks and in the process, give ammunition to the Sangh Parivar.
Against this backdrop, it was interesting to see Akbaruddin Owaisi make a plea for a two day holiday for Mahasivarathri.
"People fast for the entire day until the morning of next day and then go to work. The following day should also be declared a holiday," said Akbaruddin.
The MIM in recent times has been trying to attract the Dalit Hindus to its fold. Emboldened by its impressive electoral debut in Maharashtra, the MIM now envisages a pan- Indian role for itself, much along the lines of the Muslim League.
Akbaruddin's comments can be understood in this context. otherwise, it is a classic case of a leopard successfully managing to change its spots.
