Dalit Leaders Forced to Back KCR?

Though Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao has been openly claiming right over the Chief Minister post, he is worried that he would definitely incur wrath of Dalits for dumping the Dalit-as-CM promise.

So, the TRS president is trying to overcome this embarrassment by forcing Dalit leaders within the party to issue statements in support of his claim for the CM post.

So, leaders like Kadiam Srihari, Rasamayi Balakishan and Koppula Eshwar have been issuing statements stating that it was a historic necessity for KCR to become the Chief Minister, though Dalits deserved the post as well.

“It is essential that KCR should become the first CM, as he is the only capable leader to take up reconstruction of Telangana,” Srihari said.

But it has angered Dalit leaders in other parties. Accusing the TRS chief of failing to keep his word on making a Dalit chief minister, Congress party official spokesman D Shravan said KCR was just indulging in opportunistic politics. The TRS approaching is belittling the Dalits as if they did not deserve such top posts.

“KCR desires to become the CM of Telangana State and simply denying the same to Dalits,” he said.

Shravan alleged that KCR was forcing Dalit leaders of his party to give statements that he (KCR) should become CM. Thus, the TRS is thinking that the Dalits are inefficient to become Chief Minister, he observed.
