34 years of uninterrupted rule by the 'Communists' in West Bengal was finally decimated by the Trinamul Congress (TMC) in 2011. But Mamata Banerjee too has failed to endear herself to the public with her caustic statements and actions coupled with the huge scams rocking the State.
The conditions were just about perfect for the BJP to increase its presence there and master strategist Amit Shah is personally supervising the growth of the BJP having successfully managed to lure a couple of big fish from the TMC into the saffron fold. And Amit Shah might be on the verge of pulling off his most successful coup in Bengal!
Speculation is rife in the State that Sourav Ganguly might be joining the BJP anytime soon as the ‘captain’ of the Party in West Bengal.
It all started when Sourav Ganguly was announced as one of the nine brand ambassadors for ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan’ by Narendra Modi.
Ganguly who was in Australia said that it was a great honor and had nothing to do with politics. He reiterated his intention of keeping away from politics.
Later, in a private meeting with Modi, Ganguly allegedly declined politely, an offer from Modi to lead the BJP in West Bengal. But a recent tweet from industrialist Harsh Vardhan Goenke has once again lent credibility to the gossip. “Ganguly to join BJP. Big coup for the Party in West Bengal. Dada vs Didi,” was the tweet from Harsh Vardhan.
Ganguly has neither denied nor confirmed the news.
