Babu Mohan Joins BJP, To Shift To AP?

Tollywood comedian-turned-politician and former MLA from Andole constituency in Medak district Babu Mohan called it quits to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday.

Babu Mohan, along with state BJP president Dr K Laxman, met party’s national president Amit Shah in New Delhi and formally joined the party. He said he had decided to join the BJP on an invitation from Amit Shah.

Indications are that Babu Mohan might shift to Andhra Pradesh to fight the next elections, since the chances of his victory in Medak are said to be bleak.

The actor himself said the BJP national president had asked him to concentrate both on Telangana and as well as AP and should be prepared to work anywhere.

Though he had won the assembly elections as an MLA both in 1999 and 2014 from Andole constituency, he actually hails from Khammam district. He has more Andhra leanings than Telangana. Yet, he preferred to contest from Telangana, because he was brought up in this region.

Babu Mohan said he had joined the TRS before 2014 elections on the invitation from TRS leader T Harish Rao, but he had faced humiliation in the party.

“TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao had never indicated to me that I would not be given the ticket again. I was not in Hyderabad when he announced the list of 105 candidates. I came to know through some media friend that my name was not there in the list,” he said.

He said he had waited for a call from the chief minister about what my future would be in the party.

“I did not get any response from KCR even after three weeks. So, I had to take my own decision,” the comedian added.
