Alliance with Cong to benefit Naidu in AP?

Alliance with Cong to benefit Naidu in AP?

Telugu Desam Party, which is struggling hard to fight the 2019 assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, might benefit from an alliance with the Congress party to some extent, if not to the extent of coming to power for a second successive term.

This was evident from the latest survey conducted by Republic TV in association with C Voter, a popular election survey agency.

According to it, the Telugu Desam Party-Congress combine will win 11 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, while YSR Congress party will win the remaining 14 MP seats. Out of 11, the TDP will win eight seats and the Congress three MP seats.

Translating these MP seats into assembly seats (assuming that the voting pattern will remain the same for Lok Sabha and assembly), the TDP-Congress combine will get 77 assembly seats, while the YSRC will come to power with 98 assembly seats, 10 more than the absolute majority mark.

In fact, the same television channel, in its survey conducted in October last, predicted that the TDP would get only four seats, while the YSRC would win 21 seats.

This was before TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu met Congress party president Rahul Gandhi and officially joined hands with the Congress.

It would mean, the TDP will benefit immensely from forging alliance with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh and in turn, the Congress, too, will get three MP seats from nil in 2014.

In Telangana, however, the Congress has absolutely no chances of recovery, as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi is going to sweep the Lok Sabha elections, too, by winning 16 out of 17 Lok Sabha elections, while MIM will retain the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat.
