Rahul Gandhi once again did a disappearing act, this time in Hyderabad! Two versions are being mentioned as to why Rahul choose to skip Hyderabad.
One is security concerns expressed by the NSG Group in charge of Rahul’s security. The other version is that the Congress High Command and Rahul were displeased with the overenthusiasm of the T-Congress leaders and cadre.
The entire stretch from Shamshabad along Rahul’s proposed route was adorned with huge cutouts and flexis of the Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi.
The High Command was upset saying that when Rahul was going to commiserate with the stricken farmers, was such an extravaganza necessary and what message would it send the public?
The High Command might be right but they did not take into consideration the ground reality in Telangana of the Congress morale. This is the first trip by Rahul Gandhi after the formation of Telangana and the demoralized cadre was looking at this visit as a boost to reclaiming their lost ground.
Badly lacking in charismatic leadership in Telangana, they were hopeful of Rahul’s visit turning around things for them. Also, if Rahul had questioned the government on the farmers’ suicides and unemployment of the students, it would have struck a chord with the general public and put KCR on the back foot.
Also, they could have warned the T-Congress in advance to keep his visit a simple affair. It is not the fault of the T-Congress; it is clearly the fault of the High Command and Rahul Gandhi. They have lost out on a golden opportunity to reaffirm their goodwill as the givers of Telangana and scoring at the expense of KCR.
