BJP Sees Through Chandrababu's Game

Why is it that despite being an ally of the TDP, BJP isn’t extending any significant concessions to Andhra Pradesh?

In fact, in the game of politics between the BJP and TDP, the BJP has convincingly managed to outmaneuver Chandrababu Naidu.

The alliance has resulted in TDP gaining two Union Ministers in the form of Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Sujana Chowdary.

In return, the BJP has benefitted by putting up its best ever performance in AP.

Today, the BJP has 4 MLA’s and 2 MP’s. More importantly, strong former Congress leaders like Kanna Lakshminarayana and others are now in the BJP fold.

Emboldened by all this, the BJP has indicated its strong inclination to develop on its own in AP in future. But coming to the point, why is there a growing feeling that the TDP is increasingly being isolated by the BJP?

The answer perhaps lies in the over smart strategy of Chandrababu Naidu himself. Ever since, the TDP has gained recognition as a national party, Naidu has set his sights on Delhi itself say political analysts.

The TDP in 2019 intends to contest in all states where there is a sizeable Telugu population. That in itself might not be a problem to the BJP, but Naidu’s name emerged as an alternative to Modi for the post of ‘Prime Minister’ in the NDA as some felt that Godhra might work against Modi.

Added to that, Naidu without restricting himself to the vernacular media has been aggressively promoting his foreign trips and developments in the national media.

While this might have been done with an honest intention to project himself favorably among the Telugu people across the globe, it has nevertheless made the BJP wary of him.

Further speculation that in 2019, Naidu would be leaving AP and Telangana to Lokesh and Balayya and concentrate on national politics would not have been lost on the BJP think-tank.

And last but not the least, Modi is probably one of the most nationalistic and passionate Prime Ministers in recent times.

An impeccable reputation is deemed mandatory by him and on this score, Naidu does not score exactly high on the BJP radar.
