YSR Congress Party MP Maddila Gurumoorthy on Tuesday raised the issue of alarming breakdown of law and order in Andhra Pradesh, as was evident from the arrest of his colleague in Lok Sabha P Mithun Reddy in the alleged liquor scam
Raising the issue under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Gurumoorthy said the state was witnessing a systematic erosion of democratic norms and constitutional safeguards.
Referring to the recent arrest of YSRCP Lok Sabha Floor Leader and MP PV Midhun Reddy, the MP said that he was supposed to attend the ongoing Parliament session but was unjustly detained.
The incident, the MP noted, was not an isolated one, but part of a growing pattern in the state.
Gurumoorthy stated that the police and administrative machinery were being misused to target opposition leaders, silence dissent, and intimidate those questioning the ruling government.
Such actions, the MP said, were deeply concerning and went against the core values of justice, fairness, and democratic governance.
The MP urged the House to take serious note of these developments and ensure that political power is not allowed to override the rule of law.
