The Andhra Pradesh high court on Monday granted conditional bail to former minister and senior YSR Congress party leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy in the illegal quartz mining case.
Govardhan Reddy, who has been lodged in Nellore jail for 85 days, was directed to surrender his passport to the investigating officer and was barred from leaving Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The court also ordered him not to enter Nellore district until the charge sheet is filed.
Govardhan faces eight criminal cases, including allegations of forging tahsildars’ digital signatures, tampering with government land records, and setting up an unauthorized toll gate near Krishnapatnam to collect illegal fees.
He had already secured bail in other cases, including the forgery case involving MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy’s signature.
The high court’s latest order paves the way for his release from jail, likely on Tuesday.
The bail, however, comes with strict conditions to ensure he does not interfere with the investigation.
Interestingly, former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy recently visited Nellore jail to meet Govardhan Reddy, reflecting his continued political significance within the YSRCP.
