Will Privileges Committee Checkmate Nimmagadda?

Will Privileges Committee Checkmate Nimmagadda?

The scene is now shifted to the Privileges Committee of the AP Legislative Assembly, which had taken up the complaint against State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.

The complaint was filed by two ministers, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and Botsa Satyanarayana, accusing the SEC of causing breach of their privileges in the letter he had written to the Governor.

The SEC had alleged that the two ministers have violated the model code of conduct as the Gram Panchayat elections were in the process.

The Ministers said that the SEC’s allegations of code violations were irresponsible, motivated against them and wanted the SEC to prove the charges.

The speaker had referred the complaint to the Privileges Committee, headed by Kakani Govardhan Reddy.

The committee is scheduled to meet on February 2 at 3 pm to consider the application.

It is a fact that every one of the ruling party, including Assembly Speaker Thammineni Sitaram and Privileges Committee chairman Kakani Govardhan Reddy feel that the SEC is biased against them and acting at the behest of Chandrababu Naidu.

The ruling party leaders are waiting for an opportunity to hit back the SEC, who is hitting them through the courts.

Given these circumstances, it is to be seen how best the ruling party through the Privileges Committee would use the notice to checkmate the SEC.
