Will Pawan Kalyan broker BJP-TDP deal?

Will Pawan Kalyan broker BJP-TDP deal?

Jana Sena Party president and power star Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday left for New Delhi in a special flight to meet Union home minister Amit Shah to discuss the possibility of seat sharing between Jana Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party in the Telangana assembly elections.

Accompanied by BJP state president G Kishan Reddy and party parliamentary board member K Laxman, the Jana Sena Party chief along with his deputy Nadendla Manohar went to Amit Shah’s residence to hold discussions. He is expected to make a statement after the meeting.

So far so good. But there is a talk in the media circles that Pawan Kalyan would also broach the subject of a possible alliance among the BJP, Jana Sena Party and the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh as well.

The TDP has more or less decided against contesting the Telangana assembly elections as a goodwill gesture to help the BJP indirectly. Pawan will take up this issue with Shah and request that the BJP reciprocate the same with the TDP in Andhra Pradesh.

Sources said Pawan would explain the prevailing situation in Andhra Pradesh – how the Jagan Mohan Reddy government has been resorting to alleged witch-hunt of the opposition parties and denying an opportunity to them even to stage a protest, going to temples and address meetings.

“It is for the BJP to decide whether to have an alliance with the TDP or not, but it cannot expect Pawan to support the party in Telangana and oppose it in Andhra. This discussion will definitely come up during the meeting with Shah,” sources said.

If BJP wants Pawan joins hands with it in Telangana, while continuing to support Jagan Mohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh, it will be an embarrassing situation for the TDP in forging an alliance with the Jana Sena.
