Why Naidu skipping Jagan swearing-in fete?

Telugu Desam Party president and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu has decided against attending the swearing-in ceremony of YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as the chief minister at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium at Vijayawada on Thursday.

In fact, Naidu accepted the invitation of Jagan and thought of attending the ceremony as a matter of courtesy. He disclosed the same at the TD legislature party meeting held at his Vundavalli residence on Wednesday.

But some of the senior leaders of the party advised Naidu against attending the Jagan’s swearing-in function as it was being held at a public place, which will be packed with over 20,000 people.

“It would have been appropriate to attend the function if it is held at Raj Bhavan, since there would be limited invitees and proper security,” the party leaders told him.

Another reason for their apprehension is that the entire stadium would be packed with YSRC fans and there was every scope for them raising anti-Naidu slogans and it might lead to law and order problem as well.

At the same time, Jagan might also make strong comments in his speech against the TDP government in the past, which would be terribly embarrassing to Naidu.

“Hence, it is better to avoid attending the ceremony,” they told him.

However, Naidu decided to send a delegation of TDP leaders including MLAs to the function.

Before that, some seniors like Payyavula Kesav, Achen Naidu and Ganta Srinivasa Rao would be going to Jagan’s residence later in the evening to personally meet him and greet him with a bouquet of flowers, as a matter of courtesy.
