Vizag to be declared capital on March 4?

The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh is all set to declare Visakhapatnam as the new capital of the state, most probably on March 4.

According to sources, the Jagan government will introduce a bill to this effect in the state legislative assembly during the budget session, which is expected to start on February 28.

It is not exactly known whether Visakhapatnam would be declared only as an executive capital or the only capital city of Andhra Pradesh, as the sources said the bill was being drafted keeping in view only Visakhapatnam.

But going by the statements made by the chief minister in the state assembly and his cabinet colleagues in the recent past, the government would go ahead with its three capitals plan.

The chief minister might also come with a comprehensive plan for Amaravati as well, sources said.

There are also reports that the chief minister would be reshuffling his cabinet on February 18.

Sources said the muhurtam was fixed by Swamy Swaroopanandendra of Visakha Sarada Peetham on Wednesday, when Jagan visited his ashram to take part in its annual celebrations.

Even the date for introduction of the new capital bill in the assembly was also suggested by the Visakhapatnam seer during the meeting with Jagan.

The chief minister is expected to overhaul the entire cabinet, though he might retain a few senior ministers and those whose performance was exceedingly well in the last two years and eight months.

Further details are awaited.
