Viveka murder: CBI still looking for informers!

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has been investigating into the gruesome murder of Y S Vivekananda Reddy, former minister and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s uncle, for over a year appears to have made no headway in its probe even now.

Though the investigating agency has claimed to have questioned scores of people connected with the family of Vivekananda Reddy during this period, it could not get any clues. Even on Saturday, it questioned Viveka’s driver Dastagiri who is in Kadapa jail to get further information.

The CBI is now looking for informers who might have some clues about the murder of Vivekananda Reddy but have not been able to disclose the same fearing threat to their lives.

It is a sort of blind shot in the darkness, hoping that they might get some vital clues from hitherto unknown sources.

On Saturday, the CBI issued a newspaper notification seeking information about Viveka’s murder.

The notification said Vivekanda Reddy was brutally murdered in the intervening night of March 14 and 15, 2019, in his own house and the CBI (special crime-III wing) had taken up the investigation following the directions from Andhra Pradesh high court, Amaravati, on July 9, 2020.

The investigation agency said if anybody had any reliable information or clues about the murder, he would be rewarded with Rs 5 lakh cash. The details of the informer or informers would be kept confidential.

The notification provided the contact numbers of two investigating officers and said if there is any vital, reliable and accurate information about the murder of Vivekananda Reddy with anyone, they could contact the officials on the said numbers or the CBI office in New Delhi.

Interestingly the notification in Telugu was published in Andhra Jyothy, considered to be a pro-TDP newspaper which has little readership in Kadapa in general and Pulivendula in particular.

It is not exactly known whether the notification was published in any other newspaper in the district.

It clearly shows that the CBI has so far not got any major clue about the murder of Vivekananda Reddy.

“Had the notification been issued immediately after taking up the investigation, it would have made some sense. Who will come forward to pass on information after two and a half years?”
