Telakapalli Ravi Too Rejects AP Govt Award

Senior journalist Telakapalli Ravi on Thursday rejected the AP government’s life time achievement award.

He is the second journalist to reject the award announced by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government to honour people of excellence in various fields.

It was senior journalist Palagummi Sainath who rejected the award first on the ground that he never accepted any award from the governments.

Sainath’s announcement came immediately after the government’s announcement in early July this year.

The award carries a citation and cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, to be presented in honour of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

Sainath and Telakapalli Ravi are among others who were selected for the award and were announced by G V D Krishna Mohan.

Telakapalli Ravi, a CPM-tilted journalist who worked for a long time in Prajasakthi, did not cite any reason while rejecting the YSR Life Time Achievement Award on Thursday.

He issued a press release on the day announcing his decision to reject the award.

However, Telakapalli Ravi thanked the state government and the awards selection committee for choosing him for the prestigious award.

He also thanked his friends for congratulating him when the government announced the award for him.
