SVBC Gets A Professional Chairman, At Last!

Sri Venkateshwara Bhakti Channel (SVBC), the official television channel of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, has finally got a full-fledged professional as its chairman.

The Jagan Mohan Reddy government on Wednesday appointed Dr Velugoti Bhaskara Saikrishna Yachendra, an eminent scholar and former MLA, as the chairman of SVBC, more than nine months after the resignation of film comedian-cum-villain Pruthvi Raj following allegations of sex chat with a woman employee.

Yachendra, a descendant of Velugoti kingdom, Venkatagiri, Nellore district, will be in the post for a period of two years.

Names of a few others were heard for the SVBC chairman post in the past, including film director Srinivas Reddy and popular television anchor Swapna Sundari, but the Jagan government chose a right person for the right post.

A spiritual singer who mastered the art of Musical Avadhanam, Yachendra has been giving performances in the name of Sangeetha Geya Dhara, in which he uses songs, lyrics and music all together to form the Avadhanam.

Yachendra has travelled all over India to perform his mesmerising presentation, exhibiting his experience and knowledge in the three major artforms. He also a researcher in music.

Incidentally, Yachendra had a brief stint in politics. Between 1985 to 1989, he was a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
