Former YSR Congress party general secretary and ex-Rajya Sabha MP V Vijay Sai Reddy, who has been claiming that he has been keeping away from active politics, has taken everybody by surprise by raising the issue of “threat to Hindutva.”
He posted a strongly-worded message on his social media handle X calling for action against alleged religious conversions.
His remarks come at a time when speculation is high that he may align with a national party, including reports linking him to the BJP.
Posting on social media, Sai Reddy said he would not tolerate conspiracies against Hinduism and demanded that the government constitute a committee to investigate religious conversions that have allegedly taken place over the past two decades.
“Conspiracies against Hinduism will not be tolerated. If anyone tries to lure people with money to convert religions, they must be taught a lesson in an appropriate manner,” he posted on X.
He said the government must order an inquiry into religious conversions that have occurred over the last two decades.
“For the sake of the country and dharma, all social groups within Hindu society must unite. That unity is India’s protection — the Sri Rama Raksha,” he said.
Sai Reddy’s sudden shift toward a Hindutva-aligned narrative has drawn attention, as he was previously associated with the YSRCP, headed by Jagan Mohan Reddy, a Christian, whom the BJP targeted as anti-Hindu.
In recent months, he had spoken critically about Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s inner circle, prompting speculation that he was preparing for an active political comeback.
His latest remarks, invoking Hindu unity and calling for formal investigations into conversions, have intensified rumours of his possible entry into a national party, most likely the BJP.
