RTC Buses Between Andhra, Telangana Shortly?

RTC Buses Between Andhra, Telangana Shortly?

The bus services between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which had come to a halt in March following the imposition of lockdown across the country owing to coronavirus pandemic, are set to resume shortly.

An indication to this effect has come from the Andhra Pradesh transport department on Wednesday.

State transport principal secretary and AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) managing director M T Krishna Babu wrote a letter to the Telangana government to resume all bus services at the earliest.

He also offered to allow equal number of Telangana buses into Andhra Pradesh, so that there would be a level-playing field between the two RTCs.

In the past, the Telangana RTC used to run lesser number of buses in Andhra, while APSRTC used to run buses in bigger numbers due to high demand.

However, after the lifting of lockdown restrictions, the Telangana RTC management insisted that APSRTC should reduce the number of services to the extent of 1.12 lakh kilometres a day as TSRTC cannot run such a  big number in AP due to lesser demand.

During the negotiations that were held twice, the APSRTC agreed to reduce the services to the extent of 56,000 kilometres and asked the TSRTC to increase the services to that an extent. There was no reaction from TSRTC till now.

Apparently, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has given green signal to the proposal made by APSRTC management and responded positively to Krishna Babu’s letter.

If everything works out, the bus services between the two states are expected to restart in a week or two, after the completion of negotiations.
