Revised three capitals bill to come up next month?

With just around eight months left for the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, it appears the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government has decided not to delay the bill pertaining to the formation of three capitals for the state.

According to YSR Congress party sources, a revised bill on the three capitals has undergone the legal scrutiny and the state cabinet which would be meeting shortly would give it an approval.

The restructured bill which has plugged all legal loopholes would be introduced in the state legislative assembly in the monsoon session likely to take place in the third week of September.

Soon after the bill is passed and gets the Governor’s assent, Jagan will be shifting his administrative capital to Visakhapatnam along with the state secretariat, even as the issue continues to hang in balance in the Supreme Court.

Party sources said the bill was being prepared in such a manner that it would not be rejected by the Supreme Court at all.

“We are confident that the government would get a favourable judgement in the apex court after the passage of the bill,” they said.

In all probability, the assembly would meet for a week starting from September 18 or 20. Many other important bills would be passed in the session.

“It may not be possible to hold another session during the winter, as the election season approaches,” sources added.
