The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Andhra Pradesh police stepped up its investigation into the alleged land scam in Amaravati during the Telugu Desam Party regime in the past.

On Wednesday, the CID authorities arrested two persons including retired mandal revenue officer (tehsildar) of Thullur Sudheer Babu and another person Gummadi Suresh who were allegedly involved in the land scam. Already, several others are facing criminal cases in this scam.

Sudheer Babu, who is understood to have close relations with former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is facing the charges of fudging the land records to favour a few Telugu Desam Party leaders. He had allegedly indulged in manipulation of revenue records.

Similarly, Gummadi Ramesh from Vijayawada has been charged with purchasing lands assigned to Dalits during the TDP regime, which was against the rules. Both Sudheer Babu and Ramesh were remanded to judicial custody.

It may be mentioned that the CID had already arrested Nekkallu Deputy Collector Kanikella Madhuri in connection with illegal land deals in Amaravati.
