Privilege notice: TDP defends Nimmagadda!

All these days, TDP had been maintaining silence when the YSRCP leaders were alleging that state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar was dancing to the tunes of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and trying to benefit the TDP leaders.

But when it became evident that Nimmagadda is likely to face trouble from the state assembly’s privileges committee for alleged breach of privilege, the TDP leaders quickly jumped to the defence of the SEC, exposing their secret understanding with him.

At the privileges committee meeting held in virtual mode on Tuesday, TDP member Anagani Satyaprasad strongly objected to the committee’s proposal to summon Nimmagadda to the assembly.

He reminded to the committee that under Article 243K of the Constitution of India, the SEC enjoyed supreme powers and as such, he could not be called to the assembly.

“It is unfortunate that the YSRC government is misusing even privileges committee for implementing its dictatorial policies,” he said.

Satyaprasad wondered why the committee had to meet so hurriedly to look into the complaints of the two ministers.

He sought to know why no action was initiated against the ministers who abused Nimmagadda, who is a constitutional authority.

“This is nothing but blackmailing by the YSRC,” he said.

He pointed out that when the TDP complained against nominated MLA Shivnath Reddy for defecting to YSRC, the latter said he was appointed by the Governor and hence, the disqualification was not applicable to him.

“The SEC also was appointed by the Governor. How can the assembly take action against him?” the TDP member asked.

Former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, too, came to the defence of Nimmagadda saying the ministers cannot complain against a constitutional authority.

“The ministers made open allegations against the SEC and he complained to the Governor openly. What is wrong in it?” he asked.
