Owaisi: Quit politics, handover TDP to Lokesh

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi generally confines himself to the Hyderabad old city politics and doesn’t poke his nose into the Andhra Pradesh politics.

But addressing a meeting of Muslim groups joint action committee at Adoni in Nandyal district on Sunday, Owaisi surprisingly made a strong attack on Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of destroying the TDP as well as the state.

The AIMIM offered a piece of advice to the TDP chief to quit politics and hand over the reins of the party and the government to your son Nara Lokesh.

“You have led the party for 14 years — now it’s enough,” Owaisi said, suggesting it’s time for generational change.

He alleged that by sticking to his post and position, Naidu was damaging Lokesh’s political future by not stepping aside in time.

“You will not be going to let the party go to Jr NTR anyway, will you? Then what’s the problem in handing over the power to Lokessh?” he asked, adding that Lokesh is the logical successor if Naidu intends to keep control within the family.

On the other hand, the AIMIM chief came down heavily on Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of backstabbing N.T. Rama Rao and becoming chief minister through betrayal.

While commenting on Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, Owaisi sarcastically said, "If Pawan is a hero, then I am a bigger hero than him."

He clarified that his party also supports the development of Amaravati, asserting, “We too will fight for Amaravati’s development.”

However, he remarked that it is Chandrababu himself who is obstructing the political growth of his son Nara Lokesh.

Owaisi responded positively when asked about the YSR Congress Party, stating, “Jagan Mohan Reddy’s MPs supported us in the Parliament.”

He questioned the rationale behind proposing a law that prohibits non-Hindus from being appointed in the TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams), asking, “If such a restriction applies to the TTD, then how is it acceptable to allow people of other faiths in the Waqf Board?”
