Opinion: YS Jagan's Political Honeymoon Is Over

Generally people allow the victorious leader to enjoy the newly given power only for sometime. But in the case of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy they allowed for more than two years. The reasons can be attributed to many things- welfare schemes and weakened opposition.

But now such honeymoon time is over.

People are waiting to see the results of his rule. The struggle with strategy for the next two and half years defines the status of his power in 2024 elections.

It is time for YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to tighten the belts and  get into interactions with people like he did before the 2019 election.

So far, the coterie around him made him believe that the people are completely happy with welfare schemes. Above that, the results of the local body elections and the Tirupathi Bi Election made YS Jagan complacent.

But the recent 'mood of the nation' survey dropped him from the top position to 16th place. This should be considered as the first warning bell.

It is needless to say that the people want to see the development in the form of investments and more employment generation. Distributing the welfare schemes without visible development is sending wrong signals and suspicions on the financial health of the state.

Like YS Jagan Mohan Reddy hired Prashant Kishore to make his party win in the 2019 general elections, he needs to hire some experts in economy as consultants to make his government become successful in bringing income to the state to breakeven the expenditure incurred on welfare schemes, salaries, administration and clearing of the loans and interests. The existing yesmen under him like the officers and Ministers cannot be sufficient to make it happen. The state needs robust strategists who can think out of the box and be innovative.

Only then the positive results can be seen, and the present YSRCP government can stand up as a role model in the nation and will have brighter chances to retain power even beyond 2024.
