We have been seeing Telugu Desam Party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and even Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan taking U-turn on several issues – right from special category status to English medium in government schools.
Now, it appears even Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu has joined this bandwagon of leaders taking U-turn.
It was only on Tuesday while addressing the first convocation of National Institute of Technology at Tadepalligudem that Venkaiah had pitched for decentralised development.
“Development has to be distributed and more focus should be laid on rural areas to check migration,” Venkaiah said, adding that concentrating all the offices and institutions at one place was not advisable.
He observed that if all facilities and opportunities are in district headquarters, capital or Delhi, all would go there, hence decentralisation, distribution and re-development were the need of the hour.
Though he did not specifically mention about the latest plan of YSR Congress president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to have three-capitals for AP, it was evident that he was more or less endorsing Jagans’ decentralisation plan.
But by Wednesday, Venkaiah Naidu appeared to have taken a U-turn. Chatting with media persons at Swarna Bharati Trust in Vijayawada, Venkaiah said he was convinced that the rule should be from one place.
"The chief minister office, the governing body and the high court and assembly should be at one place," Venkaiah said.
However, he left the decision up to the state government. He requested that his comments should not be seen in political angle. If asked by the Centre on AP capital, he said he would make the same point.
