No takers for DLR; to contest independently!

No takers for DLR; to contest independently!

Former minister D L Ravindra Reddy, who had once played a major role in the in Andhra Pradesh politics from Rayalaseema, wants to stage a comeback into active politics, but it appears there are no takers for him.

Ravindra Reddy, who began his political career way back as an independent from Mydukuru assembly constituency in Kadapa district in 1978, represented the constituency for five more times from 1983 to 2014.

He was in the state cabinet of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy holding the portfolio of roads and buildings.

But after the bifurcation of the combined Andhra Pradesh, Ravindra Reddy lost his glory like any other senior Congress leader.

He made an attempt to join the Telugu Desam Party later. In 2014, he supported the TDP, but did not join the party officially.

But in 2019, he tried hard to get the TDP ticket from Mydukuru again, but party president N Chandrababu Naidu could not give him ticket due to pressures from within the party.

Later, he lashed out at Naidu and announced that he would contest as an independent, but dropped out from the contest later.

Subsequently, there were reports that DLR would join the YSR Congress party and that he had sent feelers to chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. But his attempts did not succeed as there was no favourable response from Jagan.

Now, DLR suddenly surfaced from his political hibernation and started attacking the Jagan government.

He said agriculture has plunged into crisis during the Jagan regime and the MLAs and ministers are more interested in filling their own pockets.

He also found fault with state government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy to act like a de facto chief minister, making the ministers mere dummies.

DLR once again declared that he would contest the elections in 2024, even as an independent.

He ruled out the possibility of joining the YSRC, as Jagan would not like people who would question his authority.
