YSR Congress party leader and two-time MLA from Mangalagiri assembly constituency Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, also known as RK, who was once believed to be a close associate of party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, seems to be disgusted with politics.
Known for his straightforward nature, RK has witnessed how dirty the politics would be.
Despite playing a crucial role in exposing the alleged corruption in Amaravati capital city works during the previous regime of Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and fighting pitched legal battles against him, he feels he did not get enough recognition in the YSRCP.
In 2019 elections, RK created a storm by defeating Naidu’s son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh in Mangalagiri by a margin of over 5,800 votes, fighting against all odds – stiff opposition from Amaravati farmers and Naidu’s power politics.
Yet, RK was not given a berth in the cabinet by Jagan Mohan Reddy and was pushed to back seat. He continued to be loyal to the party. As if to console him, he was made the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), but since Amaravati was dumped by Jagan, he had no work to do there. He resigned from the post within a year.
And a few months before the 2024 elections, Jagan dumped him like a hot potato and refused to give him the party ticket from Mangalagiri. Disgusted with the internal politics, RK resigned as MLA on 11 December 2023 and the also from the party.
He joined the Congress party in the presence of Jagan’s sister Sharmila on January 21, 2024. But within a month, he returned to the YSRCP as he did not find any future in the Congress.
After the YSRCP faced a big defeat in the elections, RK quietly withdrawn from the active politics of the party, though he occasionally visits the Tadepalli party office. But he doesn’t have any work to do there.
A couple of days ago, he attended a meeting of the YSRCP Guntur district leaders held by Rajya Sabha member Y V Subba Reddy, who is the party regional coordinator. Apparently, Subba Reddy asked RK to take active role in the party.
Subba Reddy reportedly promised RK that he would get him the party ticket in the next elections and asked him to actively take part in the party activities in Mangalagiri constituency.
“But on one condition. You should not ask for the cabinet berth once Jagan comes to power,” he reportedly told him.
RK, who is already disinterested in party activities, laughed it off, saying there is no need for Subba Reddy to lobby for the party ticket for him in the next elections.
“I am not interested in contesting the elections,” he is learnt to have told the MP.
