In a significant relief to senior IPS officer and former Andhra Pradesh intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, the state High Court has directed the police not to take any further coercive action against him in the case related to the alleged harassment of Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani.
The High Court issued interim orders in response to a quash petition filed by Anjaneyulu, in which he claimed he had no involvement in the filing of cases against Jethwani or in the imprisonment of her and her family during the YSR Congress Party regime.
The court instructed the police to halt all further action against the IPS officer and adjourned the case to June 30 for further hearing.
According to police, the alleged conspiracy was orchestrated by YSRCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar, who acted as a middleman, and involved junior IPS officers Vishal Gunni and Kanthi Rana Tata.
All of them are currently in jail, although the High Court has previously granted similar interim relief.
Meanwhile, Anjaneyulu is also facing a separate case related to alleged irregularities in the evaluation of Group-I question papers during his tenure as chairman of the AP Public Service Commission.
On June 11, the ACB Special Court in Vijayawada granted him interim bail on health grounds for 14 days. He is currently undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.
Despite repeated appeals by Kadambari Jethwani to the current coalition government to withdraw the "false" cases filed against her, there has been no response so far.
She has expressed anguish that while the cases against her persist, the accused are being granted legal relief.
