Nani Upset With Naidu But May Not Quit TDP

The differences within the Telugu Desam Party in Vijayawada over the selection of candidates in the ensuing municipal corporation elections have turned out to be a major headache for party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Particularly, TDP MP from Vijayawada Kesineni Srinivas alias Nani has turned out to be a hard nut to crack for the party leadership, as he is trying to dominate the other party leaders in the selection of candidates for various wards.

For example, Kesineni has fielded his own candidate who had recently defected from YSR Congress party in the 39th division of the corporation, instead of party’s official candidate G Pujitha selected by Naidu. Pujitha has the backing of TDP legislative council member Buddha Venkanna.

This led to clashes between the two TDP groups and Kesineni is said to be terribly upset with Naidu for ignoring his recommendation and entertaining Buddha Venkanna.

The disgruntlement went to such an extent that Kesineni even removed the pictures of Naidu and his son Lokesh from his Facebook page in protest, triggering speculations that he might quit the TDP sooner or later.

The TDP chief reportedly called up Kesineni and tried to pacify him, requesting him not to create troubles since winning Vijayawada municipal corporation elections is very prestigious for the party. And Kesineni told Naidu that it would be better to rein in Buddha Venkanna and others first.

He told the media that it was quite common to have differences in any political party and he would abide by the party decision.

Sources said it is unlikely that he would quit the TDP at this stage, because it might prove counterproductive for him.

“But it is a fact that Kesineni is terribly upset with the TDP leadership and he would wait for some more time before taking any decision on his future course of action,” sources said.
