Yet another senior leader who defected from YSR Congress party soon after it had lost the assembly elections in June 2024 is now said to be trying to return to the parent party.
According to sources in the YSRCP, former minister and ex-Rajya Sabha member Mopidevi Venkataramana has sent feelers to party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy indicating that he wants to come back to the YSRCP.
Apparently, Mopidevi wanted that he or his son should be given an assurance of the YSRCP ticket from Repalle assembly constituency in the next elections. However, there has been no positive response from Jagan till date, sources said.
Mopidevi, along with another Rajya Sabha member Beeda Mastan Rao bid adieu to Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party in August 2024. In October, they joined the TDP in the presence of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
While Beeda Mastan Rao was renominated to Rajya Sabha, Mopidevi was not given any such assurance or any position in the party. Sources said he was assured of an MLC seat, but so far there were no such indications from the TDP leadership.
“Apparently, Mopidevi could not get an audience with the chief minister or party general secretary Nara Lokesh, despite making several attempts. Being a senior politician in the state, he is learnt to have felt insulted. So, he is said to be trying to get back to the YSRCP,” sources said.
Earlier, there were reports that former minister Balineni Srinivas Reddy, too, was making attempts to get back into the YSRCP.
He quit the party to join the Jana Sena Party for better political prospects, but he did not get the kind of respect he had expected in Jana Sena Party.
Another former YSRCP minister Alla Nani, too, is said to be unhappy after defecting to the TDP. He is not getting any importance in the TDP due to the strong presence of the TDP and Jana Sena in Eluru.
