LS Speaker quickens probe into Raju disqualification

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has at last speeded up the process of disqualification of rebel YSR Congress party MP from Narasapuram parliamentary constituency Kanumuru Raghurama Krishnam Raju.

The Speaker referred the petition filed by YSRC chief whip in Lok Sabha Margani Bharath on the anti-party activities of Raghurama Krishnam Raju to privileges committee of the Lok Sabha, asking it to expedite the investigation.

He directed that the committee submit its preliminary report to the Speaker’s office at the earliest. The committee is expected to meet on February 3 and take up the issue, along with others.

In all probability, it would submit the report to the Speaker by the end of the first week and then, the Speaker would take a decision on the same.

Apparently realising that his days as an MP are numbered, Raju dared YSRC party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to get him disqualified by February 11.

“I am giving time to the party till February 11 to see that I am disqualified. Do whatever you want by then,” he said.

In all probability, Raju is planning to step down from the party and also quit his Lok Sabha membership after February 12. It appears he has not yet made up his mind to join the BJP.

He is likely to contest the by-election to the Lok Sabha seat independently with the support of the BJP, the TDP and the Jana Sena.
