Kodi Kathi case: Accused Sinu on fast-unto-death!

Janipalli Srinivas alias Srinu, the accused in the sensational attack on the life of YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy with Kodi Kathi (small knife used in cockfights) on October 25, 2018 at Visakhapatnam airport when the latter was in the opposition, has been languishing in jail as a remand prisoner for the last five years.

Though the National Investigation Agency declared that there was no conspiracy behind the Kodi Kathi case and that Srinu had done it only for the sake of sensation, the case did not make any headway as Jagan, who is presently the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, is refusing to turn up in the court to present his version.

Srinu’s family members and lawyers have been desperately trying to secure him bail, he is not able to get it as Jagan is refusing to appear personally in the court to depose on administrative grounds.

Having no other option, Srinivas’ family members on Wednesday announced that he would sit on a fast unto death within the Visakhapatnam central jail where he is lodged at present, till he get justice.

His mother and two brothers, too, would take up indefinite hunger strike at their residence demanding that Srinu gets the bail in the case.

Seemingly, the family has decided to bring pressure on Jagan at a time when the elections to the state assembly are due in the next couple of months.

It remains to be seen whether Jagan will take some steps to avoid embarrassment during the elections.
