Kakani files: Minister for CBI probe

Newly-appointed Andhra Pradesh agriculture minister Kakani Goverdhan Reddy, who has been maintaining stoic silence over the allegations of theft of files pertaining to a forgery case against him from the Nellore court, finally came out with his explanation.

On Tuesday, Kakani said he had nothing do with the theft of files from the court by some thieves.

“I am prepared to face any investigation, whether it is by the Central Bureau of Investigation or by a sitting high court judge,” he told reporters.

The minister said he was not aware of the theft of files, till he read about the arrest of the accused in the newspapers.

“Let the police investigate the case. I won’t interfere in the case at all. If the TDP is not happy with the police investigation, let it approach the high court and get inquired further,” he said.

Kakani, however, suspected that the theft of files could be part of a larger conspiracy to defame him. “There seems to be some foul play behind the case,” he said, adding that he had no differences with anyone in the party, including former minister Anil Kumar Yadav.

He reminded that the forgery case was filed against him during the TDP regime and court rejected the charge-sheet twice in the past. The final charge-sheet in the case was filed only after YSRCP came into power, he said.

Kakani claimed that some vested interests might have conspired to create rift between him and Anil Yadav by removing the flexes and banners in the city.

He said that no senior leader would be directly involved in such an act.
