Jyothula differs with Naidu, quits TDP post

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to boycott the elections to MPTC and ZPTCs in Andhra Pradesh has created an uproar in the party, with many party leaders at the field level strongly opposing the same.

Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and former MLA Jyothula Nehru announced his resignation from the post of TDP vice president in protest against the decision of Naidu to boycott the mandal, zilla parishad elections.

“I am thoroughly disappointed with the decision of the party to boycott the elections. That is why I resigned from the party post in protest,” Nehru said, speaking to media at his Jaggampet assembly constituency in East Godavari district.

He, however, said he was not quitting the TDP.

“I resigned only from the party post. I will continue in the TDP and will be in-charge of Jaggampet constituency. I will confine myself to my constituency and will be available to everybody there,” he said.

Nehru, who had earlier defected from the TDP into the YSR Congress party and got elected on the YSRCP ticket in 2014, returned to the TDP a couple of years later along with 22 other MLAs. After he lost the elections in 2019, he has been lying low in the party, though he was made the TDP state vice president.

Maybe, Nehru is preparing ground for the quitting of the TDP completely, as there is little scope for him to sustain his political career!
