Jana Sena Party, which has been claiming to have gained a lot of ground and consolidated its position in erstwhile combined districts of East and West Godavari districts in the last four years, was expecting to get a lion’s share in the number of seats in these districts as part of alliance with the Telugu Desam Party.
According to sources, Jana Sena Party was expecting to get at least 15-18 seats out of the total number of 34 assembly seats in East and West Godavari districts alone. But party president Pawan Kalyan accepted only 24 assembly seats in entire Andhra Pradesh.
So, in the twin Godavari districts, Jana Sena might not be able to get more than a dozen seats and the lion’s share will go to the TDP.
In the first list of 99 candidates released by the TDP-Jana Sena Party combine, the TDP has got 14 seats in these districts, while Jana Sena announced only two seats.
Secondly, even the Kapu community is feeling that it has got a raw deal in the distribution of tickets by the TDP-Jana Sena alliance. The Kapus, who have been striving hard to get a big share in power are now feeling let down.
Among 99 seats announced by the alliance, only 10 Kapus could get the tickets, whereas Kammas walked away with 21 seats; and one of them is from Jana Sena – that is Nadendla Manohar.
The TDP has to finalise candidates for 57 seats, Jana Sena Party is yet to announce its 19 candidates. It remains to be seen how many Kapus would be there among them in the second or third lists.
Sources said in these lists, too, Kapus might not cross more than a dozen seats. So, in all, number of Kapus in the TDP-Jana Sena Party lists would not cross more than 25. Among them, how many will win the seats is a million dollars question.
Among the other communities, the combined list comprises 20 OBCs, while SCs could get 20, STs 3, Vysyas two, Kshatriyas four, Velama 1 and minorities 1.
