Jagan to appear before court after six years!

For the first time after a gap of nearly six years, YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is going to appear before the special court for CBI cases in Hyderabad in connection with the quid pro quo cases being probed by the CBI.

Though Jagan filed a petition in the court on November 6, seeking exemption from appearing in the court personally, the CBI filed a counter in the special court on Tuesday opposing his plea seeking exemption from personal appearance.

The CBI argued that since daily hearings on discharge petitions are underway, Jagan’s personal presence is necessary.

Following this, Jagan’s counsel withdrew the memo seeking exemption and informed the court that the former CM would appear in person.

The court has allowed time until November 21, when Jagan will appear before the CBI special court in Nampally—his first court appearance in nearly six years.

He last attended court proceedings on January 10, 2020, after becoming chief minister.

Earlier, Jagan had cited logistical inconvenience and proposed to attend proceedings virtually, arguing that his physical presence would burden the government machinery. However, the CBI rejected this request.

The court reminded Jagan that he had agreed to appear in person after returning from his recent Europe tour.

Accordingly, his appearance on November 21 is expected to mark a turning point in the long-pending CBI cases against him.
