YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is still a preferred choice for the people of the state and his popularity has not come down at all, says former Congress MP from Rajahmundry and self-styled political intellectual Vundavalli Arun Kumar.
In a latest talk with a digital media representative, Vundavalli said personally, he did not like the way Jagan has been administering the state, but for the people, there is no better choice.
“As long as he continues to implement the welfare schemes, there is no threat to him and his party. The freebies he has been giving to the people have consolidated his vote bank. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, he did not stop any welfare schemes,” he said.
Vundavalli, however, warned that Jagan might find it difficult to continue the welfare schemes in the years to come.
“In his eagerness to implement the welfare agenda, he is ruining the state. It is not correct to sell the public assets to fund his schemes. Instead of providing full meals free of cost to the people, he should learn to build assets,” he said.
Vundavalli said the faulty policies of the government in liquor and sand supply had brought a lot of band name for Jagan. Such policies would ruin his government, he warned.
On Jana Sena Party floated by actor Pawan Kalyan, the former MP said the actor had done the biggest mistake of targeting Jagan, instead of then ruling TDP, in the assembly elections.
“This led to the YSRC campaigning that the Jana Sena had secret understanding with the TDP and that led to the debacle of Pawan Kalyan,” he said.
He defended Pawan Kalyan continuing his acting in films, while continuing to run the party.
“He needs money to sustain in politics. So, there is nothing wrong in acting in films,” he said.
On TDP, Vundavalli said Chandrababu Naidu still had the capacity to remain in politics for at least another 10 years.
“There is a talk that he is promoting Lokesh to prevent the entry of Junior NTR. But he also has the capacity to bring both Nandamuri and Nara families together and rebuild the party,” he said.
