Jagan planning second capital in Kadapa?

Jagan planning second capital in Kadapa?

Is YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy contemplating development of a second capital region in Rayalaseema, particularly in Kadapa?

There has been a talk doing rounds in a section of media circles that Jagan has decided to decentralise the administration for the all-round development of the state.

“He has realised that the attempts of the previous Telugu Desam Party government headed by N Chandrababu Naidu to concentrate the entire development only in Amaravati would lead to lopsided development. So, it is better he decentralises the administration,” a media analyst said.

According to him, Jagan is likely to announce Kadapa as the second capital region, by shifting some of the institutions there.

Most probably, he might propose shifting of the state high court, besides some major departments from Amaravati to this region.

“While setting up of the state high court in Rayalaseema had been the long pending demand of the region as was envisaged in the Sri Bagh Pact of 1956, the shifting of part of the state capital to Kadapa will ensure the government concentrates on this region,” the analyst said.

Another reason for development of Kadapa as the second capital is to invite industries to this backward region.

“It will result in large scale infrastructure development. Kadapa already has an airport and it can be expanded gradually into a major airport city,” he said.

Besides, it will also boost the real estate sector, which has hitherto been confined to Amaravati and cash rich areas of Krishna and Guntur. Now, Rayalaseema will also prosper. Since it is closer to Bengaluru, there is a tremendous scope for the realty sector.

“That could be one of the reasons why Jagan has ordered stoppage of works in Amaravati. There is a talk that the chief minister wants to set up a camp office in Kadapa shortly. May be, there will be some clarity when Jagan visits Kadapa on July 8 to address a massive public meeting at Jammalamadugu,” a source said.
