He wants MP ticket for himself, MLA ticket for son!

He wants MP ticket for himself, MLA ticket for son!

There is still one more year to go before the assembly and general elections in Andhra Pradesh, but YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has already started receiving peculiar requests from his party leaders.

Hectic lobbying is going on for party tickets from fresh aspirants to replace those who are likely to be dropped in the distribution of party tickets, as indicated by Jagan himself at party meetings.

At the same time, some of the MLAs are said to be asking for a shift in constituencies as they are facing slim chances of victory in the present constituencies they are representing.

Some other MLAs are said to be opting out of the contest and asking Jagan to give party tickets to their sons or daughters in their constituencies.

Some MLCs are also pushing their requests for MLA tickets.

A senior MLA from Rayalaseema, who is already calling the shots in the party and is believed to be closer to Jagan Mohan Reddy, declared that he won’t be contesting the assembly elections again, but wants the party ticket to be given to his son.

Interestingly, this gentleman, who prefers to maintain a very low profile, is strongly lobbying for the MP ticket from Visakhapatnam parliamentary constituency.

Though the MLA is in no way connected with the port city, he is understood to have several business connections there.

“Apparently, he wants to expand his business empire in Visakhapatnam, and the only way he can do it is by becoming an MP from there. He thinks he would have a lot of advantage once it becomes a capital city,” sources said.

Since Visakhapatnam parliamentary constituency was represented by several non-local MPs in the past, he feels that it might not be difficult for him to win it if the local party leaders stand by him, sources said.

Though this MLA is very close to Jagan, it is unlikely that his request might be entertained because there is too much competition for the Visakhapatnam seat.

Moreover, Jagan has his calculations on Visakhapatnam because of caste equations, and so he cannot take a risk by bringing a Rayalaseema man to the port city, sources added.
