Decks cleared for AP intelligence chief

At last, the Union home ministry is understood to have given the clearance for the deputation of senior IPS officer of Telangana cadre Stephen Ravindra to Andhra Pradesh, after keeping the states waiting for nearly two months.

Soon after coming to power in Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy initiated the moves to bring Stephen Ravindra, a 1999-batch IPS officer, to Andhra Pradesh on deputation for appointing him as state intelligence chief.

Even before he took over as the chief minister, Jagan made the requisition with Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for Ravindra’s deputation to AP.

The file has then been sent to the Union home ministry for approval, since it is an inter-state deputation.

Since then, Ravindra, who was till then working as Inspector General of Police in Hyderabad range, had been on leave, waiting for the central orders. On Wednesday, the Centre gave the clearance for his deputation to AP.

Once the Telangana government gets the official orders from MHA, it will relieve Ravindra and he could report to the AP government.

“It will happen in three or four days by which time Jagan will return from his Israel trip,” sources said.

Ravindra, considered to be one of the most efficient and toughest police officials, was the Chief Security Officer to former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy and is said to be closer to YSR family.

While in Telangana, he played crucial role in controlling Naxalism and in Rayalaseema, he crushed the factional feuds with iron hand.

He is known for commitment and dedication in his work as well as one of the most talented officers.
