Criminal case against Naidu for creating panic

A criminal case was filed against Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly creating a kind of fear psychosis among the people of Kurnool on spread of Coronavirus.

The case was registered in Kurnool one-town police station following a complaint lodged by Kurnool bar association president and advocate Subbaiah, who alleged that despite being in a responsible position of the leader of opposition, Naidu was spreading false information to create panic among the people.

Subbaiah pointed out a statement issued by Naidu that a new variant of Coronavirus – N440K – had spread across the state from Kurnool.

“This has caused undue panic among the people of the district, despite clarification from the medical and health department officials,” he said.

The cases against Naidu were registered under Section 155 and 505 (1)(b)(2) of the Indian Penal Code, besides Section 4 of the Natural Disasters Act of 2005, which is a non-bailable offence.

The TDP chief said in a statement earlier that the new variant of Coronavirus had surfaced in Kurnool, which was spreading fast and causing fatalities.

He pointed out that even the Telangana high court had warned the people of the new variant from Kurnool.

He said he was not creating any panic but was only speaking out of anguish because of the inefficiency of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

However, the YSR Congress leaders have alleged that Naidu was spreading false information only to malign the Jagan government.
