The Tirupati police on Tuesday served summons on YSR Congress party official spokesperson and former MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy in connection with his earlier allegations against the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on the alleged deaths of hundreds of cows in the goshala due to negligence.
The police have asked him to appear before them on Thursday with evidence supporting his claims. The move is seen as part of the government’s efforts to curb his continuous criticism targeting the TTD, sources said.
Bhumana had alleged that over 100 cows had died at the Sri Venkateswara Goshala in Tirupati due to negligence by TTD authorities. The allegations created a major stir in temple town Tirupati.
He claimed that the large-scale cattle deaths occurred under the current coalition government and accused TTD of failing to maintain the goshala properly.
The controversy prompted both the state government and the TTD administration to issue strong denials.
Bhumana had then announced that he would present proof to substantiate his charges, but the police intervened and detained him, temporarily putting the issue on hold.
With the police now reopening the case and summoning Bhumana, questions are being raised over whether he will stand by his allegations and produce evidence or if TTD will manage to prove them false.
The upcoming police inquiry is expected to determine the veracity of these claims. Depending on the outcome, the episode could either vindicate Bhumana’s assertions or clear the TTD of wrongdoing.
